ONE OF EUROPE'S LARGEST GAS FIELDS DISCOVERED IN POLAND

A new oil and gas field has been discovered in the Baltic Sea in northwestern Poland, near the city of Szczecin. The Canadian drilling company Central European Petroleum (CEP) described it as the largest in the country and one of the largest in Europe. The operator's statement was cited by TVP 3.

The field's capacity is estimated at 22 million tons of oil and five billion cubic meters of commercial-quality gas, with total reserves of 33 million and 27 billion cubic meters, respectively.

CEP CEO Rolf G. Skaar called the discovery a historic moment for the company and the entire Polish energy sector. Poland emphasizes that the field will impact the country's energy security and, once production begins, will reduce dependence on external suppliers.

Poland requires approximately 15 billion cubic meters annually. The Baltic Pipe pipeline from Norway has a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters, with the country receiving an additional five billion cubic meters through a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. After the expansion, its capacity will increase to 7.5 billion cubic meters.

It was previously announced that construction of a second floating LNG terminal with a capacity of six billion cubic meters will begin in Poland this year; completion is scheduled for 2027-2028. The discovered field thus increases the country's gas export potential.
