TURKEY SIGNS LNG PURCHASE AGREEMENTS WITH BP AND ENI

At the Gastech international trade fair in Milan, Turkish state-owned company Botas signed two key agreements for the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG), said Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources A. Bayraktar.
The three-year contract with British company BP envisages annual deliveries of 1.6 billion cubic meters (1.2 million tons) of LNG. According to the minister, this cooperation is crucial to ensuring supply continuity during the winter period, diversifying gas sources, and increasing commercial flexibility.
At the same time, a three-year agreement was signed with Italian company ENI for the supply of 0.5 billion cubic meters of LNG per year. Additionally, Botas has entered into an agreement with Oman LNG, under which the parties will explore opportunities to purchase additional volumes of liquefied gas.
In 2024, LNG imports into Turkey amounted to 12 billion cubic meters (9.3 million tons). In the first six months of 2025, this figure reached 9.5 billion cubic meters (7.3 million tons).
In 2024, Turkish regasification terminal capacity was only 27% utilized on average. At the same time, the maximum capacity of 90% was reached in February 2025, and by June this figure had already dropped to 10%, demonstrating the seasonal nature of demand.
The main suppliers of LNG to the Turkish market are currently the United States, Algeria, and Nigeria. The new agreements will allow Ankara to reduce its dependence on traditional sources.
