UNITED STATES IMPOSES SANCTIONS ON CHINESE COMPANY, 30 OIL TANKERS

The United States has imposed sanctions on China’s Guangsha Zhoushan Energy Group Co Ltd and 30 oil tankers for storing and transporting Iranian oil. The Department of State said in a statement.

“Today, the Department of State is imposing sanctions on a second Chinese terminal operator, Guangsha Zhoushan Energy Group Co Ltd, which has received at least eight shipments of Iranian oil in recent years. The Department of State has also designated three maritime services companies for their involvement in the transportation of Iranian oil <…>,” the Department of State noted.

Additionally, the U.S. Treasury Department is imposing sanctions on entities in the United Arab Emirates and India for supplying Iranian oil. "Today's actions reinforce President [Donald] Trump's policy of maximum pressure to deny the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran access to nuclear weapons and counter the regime's harmful influence.

These sanctions will limit the revenue stream that the Iranian regime uses to finance its destabilizing activities and are consistent with President Trump's commitment to zero exports of Iranian oil, particularly to China," the State Department added. According to U.S. officials, Iranian oil is reaching other buyers in Asia through China.

A sanctions list includes an asset freeze in the United States and a ban on American citizens and companies from doing business with those on the list.
