MEXICO HAS TRANSPORTED LNG TO EUROPE

ree

The first shipment of LNG from Mexico has arrived in Europe. The gas carrier Energos Princess began unloading 60,000 tonnes of LNG from New Fortress’ Altamira project in Mexico this week

This is the first LNG supply to Europe from the Mexican project. Altamira LNG supplies American gas from the Permian Basin.

This supply is essential because only on August 31 did the U.S. Department of Energy authorize the export of liquefied natural gas from Altamira to countries that do not have free trade agreements with the United States.

The approval is the first since January, when the Biden administration stopped issuing permits for LNG exports.

Active investments in LNG projects in Mexico occur against the backdrop of the slowdown of this sector in the United States due to the ban on issuing new export permits introduced by the US presidential administration.

According to Wood Mackenzie, Mexico will be able to export more than 36 million tons of LNG by 2040.
