THE LAST SECTION OF THE RUSSIAN-CHINESE GAS PIPELINE HAS BEEN PUT INTO OPERATION

The last section of the gas pipeline connecting Russia and China has been put into operation in eastern China, according to the China State Oil and Gas Pipeline Management Corporation.

The last section is Nantong - Luzhi in eastern Jiangsu Province, where all parts of the energy project of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China are connected, the operator informed.

The Chinese part of the gas pipeline starts from the border city of Heihe in northeastern Heilongjiang Province and runs from north to south to Shanghai. This energy project "has made an important contribution to improving China's energy consumption structure," the operator noted.

In 2023, Gazprom increased gas supplies to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline by 1.5 times, to 22.7 billion cubic meters, and by the end of 2024 they could amount to 30 billion cubic meters, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak previously noted. In November, the holding announced that deliveries by the end of 2024 would exceed contractual obligations.

Gazprom and China’s CNPC agreed to early withdraw Russian gas supplies to China through Power of Siberia at the maximum level starting from December 2024 instead of the beginning of 2025. Prior to that, Gazprom had planned to bring Power of Siberia to its nominal capacity of 38 billion cubic meters of gas from January 1, 2025.
