JAPAN INCREASED LNG IMPORTS FROM RUSSIA BY 11.7% IN SEPTEMBER

In September 2024, Japan increased its imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia by 11.7% compared to the same period last year. This is evidenced by statistical data published by the Ministry of Finance of Japan.
Also in September, Japan reduced purchases of Russian coal by 34.2% and did not purchase oil from the Russian Federation, for which the G7 countries introduced a price cap, with the exception of supplies from Sakhalin-2, tied to the import of LNG as part of this project.
At the same time, in the first half of the current fiscal year (April-September), Japan reduced its purchases of LNG from Russia by 7.1% and coal by 49.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
